Gemstones
I've really loved discovering and exploring the gemstone world, initially being drawn to stones purely because of their colour, but learning about their historical uses and properties has been fascinating.
I've always loved costume jewellery and as a youngster I adored going into Swarovski to gaze at all the crystals and how see how the colours caught the light. However, in my own designs, I wanted to work with natural stones, I like the way they feel on the skin and the calmness they bring and they have a weight on the body, that their lab made counterparts do not.
Aquamarine
This is one of my favourite stones to work with, as I love the light blue hues it comes in, which I find calming and peaceful. It's also a stone that really works all year around, looking great with summer dresses or denim and a white linen shirt in summer, but also an evening dress in winter.
Good for: reducing stress and promoting emotional balance.
Style advice: Aquamarine is a stone that works on most skin tones and looks lovely worn with a crisp white shirt and washed denim.
*I realise as I look around me, that I'm also drawn to the calming tones of aquamarine in my home - our sofas are from Loaf in "Birthday Candle" which is such a pretty shade of blue and we have Borrowed Light from Farrow and Ball in my son's bedroom and master bedroom (they describe the shade as "a pale and illuminating blue")... I'm clearly trying to create some tranquil spaces in our rather crazy home!
Morganite
I'm very drawn to Morganite as I really like the soft rainbow colours you can find in this stone. I find them very wearable and great with denim, linen shirts and summer dresses.
Good for: a heart stone, unconditional love and compassion, calming and brings joy.
Style advice: The pieces I make using Morganite are in the softer tones so work well particularly with blonde hair, however anyone can wear pastels if you find the right shade - so I tend to combine mine with stronger colours so they don't make wearers look washed out (I have dark hair and love wearing them, especially combined with other pieces, they're a really good layering piece as they have so many colours).
Moonstone
Such a wearable stone, due to it's pearlescent colour it goes with most things and is easy to dress up and down.
Good for: balancing emotions and promoting inspiration.
Style advice: Moonstone can be worn day or night, but in the evening really catches the light beautifully.
Opal
The majority of the opal stones I work with are dyed white opals as I LOVE the rainbow of colours they come in and they bring me such joy! I originally only wanted to work with completely natural none dyed stones, but realised I was missing out on creating the kaleidoscopic pieces that I really wanted to create.
Good for: bringing a sense of peace to an overactive mind and enhancing creativity.
Style advice: I'm wearing my rainbow opal necklaces daily, layering them with simpler styles to give a real colour boost to my outfits. I also like them worn underneath a jumper, so you can just see a hint of colours they display, which is still very brightening to the face and "lifting" to your overall look.
Peridot
One of my favourite necklaces in the collection is the Peridot Daisy Chain Necklace. The shade of peridot is a very flattering green.
Good for: purity, strength, balance and good luck vibes
Style advice: It is a very pure green colour that works with neutral skin tones both warm and cool coloured. I like to combine it with both brights and pastels, so I find it is a very good layering colour for adding a boost to your look.
Rose Quartz
Such a pretty stone, it compliments many skin tones. I love the motherly and loving vibes I get when wearing it.
Good for: the stone of unconditional love, balancing emotional health and encouraging compassion and peace.
Style advice: As rose quartz is such a pretty tone, I like to add other colours to it in either morganite or opals to bring it to life.
Sapphire
This is another favourite stone of mine. I find navy blue so pleasing on the eye and love the way the stones catch the light. My skinny styles in sapphire are some of my best sellers.
Good for: a stone of wisdom and inner peace,
Style advice: Navy is a much softer colour than black so easier to wear for more skin tones. The sparkle, particularly in the 2mm stones I use, is so flattering and reflective against the skin so lovely especially for evening.
